For tenor, harp and cello - this very beautiful melody is from an old Lutheran hymnal published by Augsburg Press. We can find no information on the composer, only knowing this hymn dates back to 1890. The melody is elegant in its diatonic simplicity. The cello part is not difficult, consisting mainly of quarter notes. For all harps, pedal or lever, lower intermediate.

Schermer, Verlene - "Traditional Christmas Tunes with a Twist"

Christmas

€  ####

This is the newest book in the "Tunes with a Twist" series. The “twist” is the jazzy approach in the arrangements of these tunes that we usually hear with traditional chords and rhythms. The arrangements in this book are for lever harp, but can be played just as easily on pedal harp or piano. Most of the tunes can be played on a lever harp with only F and C levers, but for one tune, you will also need a G# and for another, you’ll also need a Bb for a lever slide -- or you can simply leave it out. Each arrangement uses either jazzy chords or jazzy rhythms or both. Chords are also given for guitar or any other chording instrument. Songs: Away in a Manger; The First Noel; God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen; The Holly and the Ivy; I Saw Three Ships; It Came Upon a Midnight Clear; Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring; Jingle Bells; O Christmas Tree; and Silent Night. 25 pages

Wood, Carol - "The Beasts of Bethlehem"

Christmas / Harp and vocal

€  ####

X.J. Kennedy cycle of poems, "The Beasts of Bethlehem," set to original music by Carol Wood. These simple poems, regarding the presence of animals at the Nativity, remind us of the unity of Creation and sacredness of Nature. Most of the songs are one or two pages in length. The music, written for alto voice, is soothing and evocative at the same time. The harp parts are easy to intermediate, requiring a full range lever harp with levers on F, C, G, D, and A. The accompaniments beautifully underlie and support both the melody and the words. A performance of this work would be a unique way to celebrate the holy days of December. Titles are: Prelude, Cow, Horse, Owl, Beetle, Hen, Hawk, Snail, Camel, Mouse, Cat, Hummingbird, Worm, Sheep, Animals' Lullaby, Bat, Mosquito, Ox, Ant, Goat and Donkey. 42 pgs.
