Pachelbel's Canon in D, arranged for 22-string lap harp with a range from G to G. Several accommodations for the limited range of this harp have been made, including some octave displacement and transposing from D to C major. There are three lever change from Bb to B natural and back. Rehearsal markings have been placed every eight bars to assist the harpist in adapting the length of the piece for playing in wedding ceremonies or at bedside. The collection includes popular songs of the time that are quoted in Shakespeare's works as well as pieces thought to have been composed specifically for the plays. It is well edited with some fingerings, brackets and dynamic markings. The theme is in ¾ time and is played through one time. The 5 variations that follow are in more of a driving 6/8 time. Patricia Rushton was a well-loved California harpist who delighted in giving new life to songs for the small harp. Her arrangements are very good and lay well under the hands. The selections are unusual. Most of the tunes can be played on a harp with less than 26 strings. You'll need levers on B,E,F and C. The level of difficulty ranges from very easy to intermediate. Derry Air and High Road are the more challenging, having octaves and full LH patterns. Helpful hints on how to accommodate your small harp are included.

From Jane Pickering's Lute Book (c. 1616) Arranged by Ellen Tepper Lutenist Jane Pickering was associated with the court of Henry, Prince of Wales. This piece is from her notebook. Arranged in several ways for harps in various combinations: HARP DUET with 2 equally challenging parts; HARP TRIO with harps 1 and 2 in treble clef only, with some lever changes, and harp 3 as a two- handed "accompaniment" part. A score is also included for study or conducting. DUET FOR HARP AND OTHER TREBLE INSTRUMENT (i.e. flute, violin or recorder), for pedal or lever harp. The Harp 1 part from the Trio version may also be used as the solo instrument with this version. The music assumes the range of the harp to be from C below middle C to the C above treble clef, and is suitable for most 26-string models with levers on C, F and G. There is a high B-flat that can be tuned ahead or preset with levers if you have them. The parts are of varying difficulty to accommodate the wide range of harp playing and reading abilities.
