The Thijssen Harp, model Arthur

This is a completely new  harp model, built by the Dutch harp builder Pieter Thijssen. The 34-string harp is totally  hand made and has a nice bright sound and a good volume. Model Arthur is available in maple and mahogany. Pieter Thijssen makes two varieties of the Arthur: a simple version and a de luxe. The de luxe is decorated with beautiful carving by his son Luuk Thijssen. Luuk attends the education for wood sculpture at Maaseik in Belgium. If it is technically possible Luuk can add all your personal wishes to your harp. How about some Celtic shapes our your initials. Now that really makes it a personal harp!

Features of the Arthur:

• 34 strings, reaching over 4 ¾ octaves, from the C two octaves below the central C to the A (2 ¾ octaves above the central C). 

• Gut strings.

• Light in weight and with a not too strong string tension.

• Choice between an simple and a luxury version:

  • the simple version is made of mahogany and a bit simpler materials are used.

  • the luxury version can be made in mahogany or maple. It is beautifully decorated with wood carving on the pillar and has an inlay around the sound board. Personal ideas for the woodcarving can be realized.

• Camac levers, made totally from metal. The tone difference of the levered string is virtually undetectable to one that is not levered. They have a very smooth and quiet action. There is no noise from the lever rubbing on the bass wires when engaging. 

• Normally the harp has low legs. On request longer legs can be made to fit your size.

• As an alternative a foldable harp bench is available.
