Building the harps

Pictures of the process of building the instruments at Dusty Strings. An impression of their former facility.

The milling team grades raw chunks of wood and saws it into lumber in the desired size and shape.

A computerized cutting machine takes care of repetitive tasks without getting bored.

Skilled woodworkers then take over with both hand tools...

...and power tools as each task demands.

The instruments are glued together and clamped,

...sanded to a smooth finish and lacquered.

Next comes stringing...

...and lots of tuning...

...and each instrument is hand tested...

...before being carefully boxed up and shipped.
